Weekend Receptionist - Development
Starting pay $7.44/hour
Effective immediately there is a requirement for a Weekend Receptionist (grade 4) in the Development Department. The Weekend Receptionist is responsible for greeting, assisting, and directing Zoo guests, callers, and employees. This position plays a vital role in serving as an ambassador for the Zoo. The Receptionist is responsible for a variety of clerical and administrative tasks that require knowledge of office procedures and practices. The Receptionist reports to the Development Supervisor.
- Establish and maintain positive, cooperative, and effective working relations with fellow employees.
- Constantly exhibit a customer service attitude, a smile, and an obvious interest in visitor comfort and service.
- Communicate with the public in a courteous and tactful manner and assist visitors with questions and directions to various areas of the Zoo. Address the visitor - do not wait to be asked.
- Remove trash and debris from public areas; i.e. pick up litter whenever you see it.
- Maintains the base radio station for regular Zoo business and emergency situations.
- Answers and redirects incoming telephone calls on a multi-line system.
- Answer general questions about the Zoo and the local area including, but not limited to, hours, rates, directions and restrictions.
- Performs a key role in the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) communication.
- Performs a variety of clerical tasks.
- Supports daily operations in the office
- Maintains work station and reception lobby.
- Meters outgoing mail and sorts and distributes incoming mail.
- Handles coupon redemption and sale of prepaid tickets.
- Assists membership with answering questions, preparing day passes and reciprocal zoo discounts.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of office secretarial techniques and practices.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively deal with displeased visitors.
- Ability to organize, be attentive to details, and respond quickly and effectively under pressure.
- Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
- General knowledge of the local area.
- Knowledge of general business English and mathematics.
- High school graduate or GED certificate.
- Computer proficient and able to use WordPerfect, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to type 30 words per minute with accuracy and neatness.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays and occasional after-hours assignments.
- Ability to speak and understand Spanish an advantage.
- Ability to be outgoing and friendly.
